Port A Mayor Extends Disaster Declaration

Subject: Pool and Spa Closures

All,

The Mayor extended his Disaster Declaration unit April 23rd and will likely continue to extend the orders until April 30th or longer.

The decision to close common (community) pools was based on guidance by Dept. State Health Services and Gov Abbott’s order referencing non-essential businesses and facilities. Although you could argue social distancing might be obtainable, you can’t argue the non-essential nature of a common pool and the opportunity it presents to provide a venue to socialize. Ultimately we rely on Sec 6 of the local order which states in part ” This declaration authorizes the City to take any actions necessary to promote health and suppress the virus, including the quarantine of persons and occupied structures,…”

Please make sure all common pools and spas are locked so there is no access to these until we get the all clear to open them back up.

Thank you,

Carla Vanzant
